An audiophile cable
My friend Vyacheslav Kalashnikov from Ukraine send me a pair of very well made interstage hi-fi audio cables he produces using high quality silver-plated and teflon components. I recommend them highly as are not just of superb quality, but also robust, neatly finished and they do sound good indeed.
Why silver-plated and teflon cables?
Generally, the interconnect cables use one of the following insulation materials: polyethylene or foam polyethylene, polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride. Unlike these PTFE teflon has the lowest coefficient of dielectric constant, and extremely low dielectric losses. Therefore, teflon is the best insulator and dielectric, which is found in the highest quality and (generally most expensive) sound capacitors and cables in the marketplace. The centre conductor and screen usually are made of either aluminium, copper or oxygen-free copper. Unlike these the silvered ones have a lower resistance and have lower “skin” effect. The result of this cable is lower capacitance, very small loss and no distortion leading to pure and clear sound.
Design & construction
The cable is made of high quality silver-plated cable.
- The inner conductor is composed of a single core wire with a diameter of 0.8 m (cross-section 0.5 mm2). It’s made of MC OFC (Matched Crystal Oxygen Free Copper) with a very thick and dense mechanical pure silver coating.
- The insulation between the conductor and the shield is made of PTFE (Teflon) tape imposed layered.
- Shielding is provided by a braiding which has 120 cores x 0.10 mm each. The material used is MC OFC (Matched Crystal Oxygen Free Copper) with a very thick and dense mechanical pure silver coating.
- Additional insulation applied after the screen:
- PTFE (Teflon) tape imposed in 2 layers
- Artificial silk weaving
The RCA connectors are made by EOS:
- 24 carat gold coating
- Teflon isolation
- Solid brass nickel-plated body
- Collet clamp
Specifications
- Resistance – 0.035 Ω/m
- Capacitance – 63 pF/m
- Impedance – 75Ω
- Frequency response:
- 20Hz – 20,000 Hz – flat (0 dB/m)
- 1 GHz – attenuation 0.3 dB/m
- 10 GHz – attenuation 1.0 dB/m
Buying the cable
Similar cables on the market are very expensive. A close reference cable would be the Silver IT MkII from Van Den Hul which costs more than probably you would pay for!
Prices for the cable are (excluding shipping costs and local taxes at destination):
- 1m length: $100
- 0.75m length: $80
If you are interested in getting a pair of these cables, you can contact Vyacheslav directly via email.
Hi,
Is the price you stated for the cable above for a stereo pair or a single cable?
Seems to be just what I would like.
Many thanks, Hansrudolf
For a pair of course but get in touch with the seller directly as Im not involved on it. Just reviewed an excellent product.
Thanks
