Goodbye McCoy

I hate saying goodbye. However, that’s life and it’s sad to see the great people jump on the next bus. I was very young when I first heard McCoy Tyner. I was learning saxophone when obviously Coltrane took me to him and his piano. Unique style, complex tempo and chords made Coltrane explore the deep end. That Coltrane Quartet was magic.

He did a lot for music indeed. More importantly he made a big difference to a few individuals on the planet, including me. Probably my love for music and thrive for innovation was due to him and Trane.

Many moons back went to see Mingus Big Band in New York. On the table next to us, McCoy sat down with Mingus’ wife. We were crazy about his presence but didn’t want to make him feel uncomfortable. We had a nice brief conversation and enjoyed the music as equal audience members. Still, his presence next to me disturbed my mind.

I will spin a Love Supreme and My Favourite things on vinyl tonight. Have a good trip McCoy, I will continue to enjoy your magic…

Morgan Jones’ visit

I had the pleasure of Morgan Jones visiting me today. We’d discussed for some time a meeting and I was looking for the right time. August looked to be it as I was taking some days off work before the arrival of our next child.

Morgan had planned to ride in his bike into London. What could have gone wrong? Well, after more than two months of hot weather and no rain, we had a classical British rainy day.  He arrived completely drenched in his leather bike gear.

Oh well, it all went uphill after that. We listen to Tom Waits on the new setup after the DHT shootout held yesterday.

Running

A common theme of our age, run. We keep running, but not physically only. Our minds are constantly interrupted, like an CPU IO interrupt. Well, sort of. You get the gist. We run from home to work, from there to here, from here to nowhere. The reality is though, we are always on the move. Do we really like that? Hey, probably no, but that’s the way things work these days.

I have a hectic life myself, no doubt. As so probably you. Either way, the most precious moments in life – at least in the XXI century – is to unwind, stop and enjoy a bit of the slow movement. Slowly put the needle on that record, slowly sit down on your comfy sofa and slowly pour that single malt.

The rest is your imagination that I will so much struggle to put into words
